About Gold Coast
A long strip of high-rise beachfront in south-east Queensland, about an hour south of Brisbane. Surfers Paradise is the busy centre; the theme parks and the inland hinterland are the other reasons people come. Population: about 607,665 (2021).
When to go
Subtropical and usable all year. Winter (June-August) is dry with highs around 21 °C; summer days run close to 30 °C, humid, with short afternoon storms rather than long rain. Late November brings the Schoolies crowds.
Getting in from the airport
Gold Coast Airport (OOL, often called Coolangatta) sits on the Queensland/New South Wales border, roughly 30 minutes by road from Surfers Paradise. Bus 777 runs to the Burleigh Heads tram stop every 15 minutes; the airport closes overnight. Some long-haul travellers land at Brisbane (BNE) instead.
